Hearing Guidance

Protect little ears with the right volume levels, safe placement, and healthy listening habits.

Babies are especially sensitive to sound. White noise is proven to help infants sleep by mimicking the womb and masking everyday disruptions, but if it’s played too loudly or too close it can put hearing at risk. Following safe listening practices ensures your little one gets all the benefits of Nodiee without harming their developing ears.

Safe Volume Levels

Keep Volume Around 50dB

Roughly the same as light rainfall or a quiet conversation. This level is soothing, gentle, and safe for regular sleep use.

Never Go Above 70dB

Prolonged exposure above this level can harm hearing. For reference, 70dB is similar to a vacuum cleaner at close range.

Use the “Parent Ear” Test

Stand next to the cot. If the sound feels loud or uncomfortable to you, it’s too loud for your baby. Adjust until it’s soft, steady, and comfortable.

Proper Placement

Volume is only half the picture because distance matters too. To keep your baby’s ears safe:
✅ Keep your Nodiee at least 1 metre away from the cot, bassinet, or pram
✅ Never place the machine inside the cot or directly next to your baby’s head
✅ Use a flat, stable surface (or clip it securely if using the On-The-Go model)
✅ Aim the sound outward so it fills the room gently, not directly at your child

Healthy Listening Habits

  • Limit long sessions at high volume – the louder the sound, the shorter the safe listening window
  • Use white noise as a sleep cue – helpful for naps and bedtime, not needed as constant background sound all day
  • Mask disruptions, don’t overpower them – set the volume just below the level of household noise like siblings, pets, or traffic
  • Pair with routines – combine white noise with soft lighting, cuddles, or a bedtime rhythm so your baby doesn’t rely on sound alone

Quick Volume Check (For Parents)

Here’s an easy way to think about safe sound levels:

🌙 Whisper ≈ 30dB (safe)
🌧️ Rainfall / quiet conversation ≈ 50dB (ideal for Nodiee)
🧹 Vacuum cleaner ≈ 70dB (upper limit — avoid going louder)
 🚨 Car horn / loud music = 90+dB (unsafe)

Tip: Download a free decibel meter app and measure from where your baby sleeps. Adjust volume until it falls within the safe range.
